In Tim Egan's metropolis, cows and pigs don't hang out together. When one small cow, Bennett Gibbons, wants to play with the pig kids in what looks like some pretty fine mud, his mother forbids him. It's a species-segregated (read "class-") world. Then Egan introduces a wild card - the new family on the block (who just happen to be pigs and have a son the same age as Bennett). The cartoon-like economy and soft, air-brushed colors of Egan's pictures are deft in their expressiveness of this fable about children teaching their elders lessons of tolerance.
