The Water Princess

The Water Princess

Spring 2019 DVD
Ages: 5 - 8 yrs.
DVD Price: $15.00

Narrator/protagonist Princess Gie Gie, has the power to tame wild dogs. When she dances, she makes the tall grass bend. But she cannot make water come to her dusty village.

Every morning, Gie Gie and her mother walk many miles to the well, and many miles back home, carrying water jugs on their heads. Then, they must boil and cool the water before cooking the food and washing the clothes. At night, she dreams of a time when her village will have clean water of its own. But at sunrise, the water journey resumes.

Written by Susan Verde and illustrated by Peter H. Reynolds, The Water Princess is based on the West African childhood of Georgie Badiel –supermodel and activist –who is working tirelessly to help all children get access to clean water. Superbly animated by Weston Woods, exquisitely narrated by Yetide Badaki, Michael Bacon's music provides a skillful complement. This nine-minute animation is distinguished by its powerful and moving simplicity.

If that's not enough recommendation, the interview with Georgie Badiel and the solid thought-provoking questions in the study guide, make this DVD a must see for viewers of all ages.
