Review:

Jack Hannah is a gem. The longtime favorite animal ambassador and veteran of the TV animal world recently just signed a two-year contract to his extend his Wild Countdown show. That's good news, especially for fans of the animal expert and his delightful Wild Countdown.

The format is clear and well organized - moving quickly from Hanna's base camp office at The Columbus Zoo in Ohio to highlight five or six special places or concepts relating to animals. Maybe it's South Africa, or the Galapagos Islands — both home to exotic wildlife. Jack's life has been filled with far-flung adventures, and he's genuinely appreciative, telling viewers that he's been "lucky enough" to visit amazing locations filled lemurs, koalas and any other dozens of kinds of animal friends. Sometimes his family members join him and it's fun to see Jack make his excursion into the wildlife habitat a personal one.

Jack never takes the animal kingdom for granted, treating animals with respect and awe and showing his innate curiosity as he quizzes local guides all about the particular pet of the region. This isn't a high-tech show, with gimmicks or snark or snazzy graphics (although the numbers in the countdown are pretty cool), it's just a great way to learn about, and gain an appreciation for, the world's animal kingdom.
