Tweens and teens probably know all about the top Instagram influencer, the latest YouTube star, the funniest Snap story. But they need to know real-life basics, too - the kinds of things that used to be taught in Home Economics, are now may be called Consumer Science or Life 101.

Consumer 101 offers a behind the scenes look at product testing and tips on how to choose and use the products. The series is clearly tied to Consumer Reports - which makes it feel too much like an ad at times - but the connection makes sense. For example, a segment on testing tires also explains hydroplaning, a segment about the dishwasher lab is pitched as a painting segment (somewhat misleading) but still gives good consumer advice, and a segment about the optimal places to put food in a fridge shed light on how to keep your milk fresher longer. That's valuable knowledge for conscious consumers.

Hosted by Jack Rico, with the help of experts and scientists from the Consumer Reports labs and testing facilities, Consumer 101 gives viewers practical tools and insight from choosing bicycle helmet to the security holes in a wireless router and even removing pet hair from blankets and clothing.
