One day a pilgrim named Secondus arrives in the village and convinces Boy to join him on his journey and carry his bag. This bag warms Boy's back and shelters him from being identified as a hunchback. But the pilgrim's intentions are not honorable and Boy's life becomes increasingly difficult and complex.
In a wholly original story, author Catherine Gilbert Murdock's magical book is filled with mystical elements. Boy's manifold misadventures are compelling, believable and unforgettable. A must read — alone or aloud.
