Review:

With the engaging cadence of an oral storyteller, author Martin Jenkins' narrative introduces young children to how weather patterns affect a family of squirrels (sheltering from the cold in their cozy nest, feasting on maple tree buds in the spring, gathering and burying acorns for the next winter to come), their neighbors: frogs (croaking, sleeping), and an owl in a tree "keeping an eye on things" as the seasons come and go. Richard Jones' painterly mixed media illustrations capture the changes experienced by the flora and fauna in their little neck of the woods. Jenkins includes a list of thinking cap questions about what children observe in the story and about weather in general, as well as an index of weather terms found in the book.
