We love rooting for the underdog, for the Dorothy in Emerald City who just wants to find her way home. In Peter Brown's delightful best-selling sequel to The Wild Robot, that's exactly what happens.

You don't need to have read the first book; you'll instantly be intrigued by Rozum 7134, or "Roz," as she's called, the main character of what becomes a fantastic journey home involving a farmer, two children, a young goose, an old cow and more.

The story begins as Roz is shipped to Hilltop Farm, where an overwhelmed Mr. Shareef desperately needs help with his equipment, his fields, his crops and his two children, Jaya and Jad. While Roz comes to his rescue, and endears herself to the children, it turns out she's clearly "different" from other robots. She has feelings.

There are many lessons: love, kindness, persistence, loyalty, an longing. The story is also about technology and machine learning as it paints a picture of a robot who doesn't just follow orders but a robot who thinks for herself.

Narrator Kathleen McInerney's tone and pacing are impeccable, whether she's evoking enthusiasm, sadness or joy. She seamlessly voices a wolf, an old cow, two young kids, pigeons, a doctor, and a farmer believably, without going overboard.
