Q Wunder App
Spring 2018 Mobile AppsQWunder is an educational app that uses a friendly monkey, Q, to help children learn important emotional and social skills and concepts in four broad categories: self-management, self-awareness, social management, and social awareness. The app consists of theme-specific video episodes featuring Q as he learns about teamwork, patience, flexibility, friendship, problem-solving and more. The videos are short, self-contained, and just the right length to keep children interested without overwhelming or boring them.
Parents can track their children's progress in all content areas and the Parents' Corner features free resources, articles, and videos to help parents support their children's learning. These include articles such as "How to Dine Out without Losing Your Mind," "How Not to be a Mom-Servant," and "Seven Easy Kid-Friendly Dinners Kids Can Make Themselves." There are also articles and Podcasts related to a broad range of parenting issues. Parents can explore the app in a free trial version, but full access requires a subscription of $7.99/month or $64.99/year.
QWunder is an entertaining app that can be a helpful tool in teaching children emotional and social intelligence, but we prefer a more active method of learning; it seems like the majority of time on this app is passive with children simply watching videos. More active engagement would improve long-term play and learning values as well as solidify learning.
