Hidden Pictures Puzzle Town
Spring 2018 Mobile AppsHighlights magazine has long been a childhood staple; and, perhaps the most popular, or at least the most memorable, portion of the magazine are the games and puzzles. Puzzletown by Colto includes five familiar game/puzzle types that teach and hone a variety of early learning skills.
Of course, there are Hidden Pictures in which children must find a series of cleverly obscured items. But, the app also includes: Match Maker, Picture Mix-Ups, Mazes, and Look and Look Again. In Match Maker, children are presented an increasingly large group of objects from which they pair up identical items. Picture Mix-Ups are sliding picture puzzles. And, Look and Look Again has children find the differences between two similar images. Not only are these well-designed games/activities entertaining and engaging, they also challenge children to develop patience, concentration, problem-solving skills, critical thinking, attention to detail, cognitive flexibility, short-term memory, and fine motor skills. The graphics are bright and colorful and the music is soft and pleasant; and, neither are distractions from the app's activities. It's a pleasure to use. Parents can try out Puzzletown with a free, 30-day trial, but after that, the automatically-renewing subscription will run $2.99 month.
