NG Kids

Spring 2017 Website

The Nat Geo Kids website provides the exciting and educational material that has become synonymous with the print magazine of the same title. Nat Geo Kids features an easy-to-navigate dashboard that allows children to select nature-themed videos, games, and activities. The YouTube-style videos are hosted by children for children; and, their content ranges from dinosaurs and dolphins to weather and geography. They are short and pithy with just enough content to engage children without overloading them. The Games tab features nature-themed games such as African Animal Maze, Fuzzy Animal Memory Match, and quizzes such as "Which Greek God Am I?" And, on the Animals tab, children can access libraries of pictures and videos of the animal of their choice as well as detailed information about that animal (e.g., average weight, habitat, diet, etc.). Children can also send in their own photos for posting on the website. Badges, which are only relevant for individuals who register, are earned for activity on the website and can be collected and viewed. There's even a Homework Help section that teaches children how to write a letter, conduct research, and conduct scientific experiments; and, it also includes an online encyclopedia with age-appropriate content. The website, used either alone or in conjunction with the print magazine (subscription ads are on every screen), is an extensive resource for kids interested in science and nature.
