Harvey Beaks,

Harvey Beaks, "Steampunks Part I and II" (SPECIAL)

Spring 2017 Television
Ages: 6 - 11 yrs.
Producer: Nickelodeon
Rating: TV Y7

Steampunk is a special two-part episode of the animated series Harvey Beaks, featuring 10-year-old bird Harvey, his family, and his oddball best friends Fee and Foo.

Harvey's forest home of Littlebark Grove may not be the most exciting place on earth but Harvey always manages to stir up adventure. Here, after upsetting his Dad's friend Moff, Harvey - rather melodramatically - rebukes himself, conking his head in the process. That leads to a dreamed story featuring Harvey and his pals living in a magical place called Steamville. Harvey behaves as he usually does in his real world, i.e. enthusiastically but without much forethought, so naturally he gets blamed when a mishap breaks this floating city. Harvey sets out to clear his name but there's danger (albeit, cartoonish and outlandish danger) around every corner and Harvey has to rely on his ingenuity, and the help of the friends he makes along the way, to set things right.

This special is peppered with musical numbers and very inventive art direction that blends the traditional Harvey Beaks animation style with eye-catching steampunk touches. It also has trademarks of the usual Harvey Beaks series, which relies on off-beat humor and indulgent, although well-meaning, characters engaging in quirky behavior.

A fun and imaginative romp.
