Paradise Run

Paradise Run

Spring 2017 Television
Ages: 6 - 12 yrs.
Producer: Nickelodeon
Rating: TV G

If you were a fan of CBS competition show, The Amazing Race, which won more than a dozen Emmys and was wildly popular for more than a decade, then you can see immediately why Nickelodeon came up with Paradise Run. It's a mini version of The Amazing Race.

On this show, three teams of kids compete to win a tropical vacation. (They already appear to be on vacation, but that doesn't matter. Who couldn't use another tropical vacation?)

Competitors must run a race around the Hilton Waikoloa Village Resort in Hawaii. (Product placement, yes? Does it matter? Well, it is the setting for the whole show.) The race includes three challenges. At each stop, once the task is completed, the team is given a clue that leads to the next challenge, and ultimately to the final hotel suite where their parents await.

It's fun to watch the kids - who are all around age 11 - slip, slide, squeeze, splash and run around doing whatever the task demands. In some, good memory is required. In others, physical skill is more in play. At the end of each, a riddle must be solved.

Someone wins and someone loses - that's how any game goes. And even though the struggles are real and they do get frustrated, they all seem to have a blast and demonstrate good sportsmanship.
