OWL's emphasis is on STEM subjects-science, technology, engineering, and math-and it delivers with a whiz-bang design chock full of interesting short articles, infographics, puzzles, quizzes, crafts, comic strip action, and humor. The magazine, which started in 1976, recently profiled teen inventors and activists, explored phobias, super volcanoes, "The Sticky World of Slime," put out an expanded Summer Olympics issue sized for convenient portability, and celebrated its 40th anniversary with an entertaining "looking back" issue.
