Motor Miles
Fall 2016 Picture BooksWhimsy and heart in both words and pictures are the hallmarks of a new picture book by John Burningham. In this prolific, multi-award-winning author/illustrator's world, it is perfectly normal that Miles, the family dog, would take up driving. After, all, he's not really into doing doggy things, and when a neighbor offer to build Miles his own car, it's just the ticket. Soon, Miles and his young human companion, Norman, are travel buddies, tootling around through the seasons and Miles is now a happy dog. Time passes, the boy grows too big for the car, and Miles' enthusiasm for car travel wanes without his best friend/passenger. But never fear, this hint of melancholy passes in an inspired ending that suggests that even bigger-and indeed, soaring-adventures for Miles and Norman lie ahead.
