Fall 2016 Website
Ages: 3 - 8 yrs.
Publisher: Big Word Club
Review:

Big Word Club is a vocabulary-learning website for children aged three through ten years (PreK-K, Grades 1-3, and Grades 4-5). Each week, children are introduced to five Big Words of the Day in short, animated videos that include the word's correct spelling, its phonetic spelling, its definition and its use in a sentence (as read by a child, which is a nice touch). Additionally, each week includes a storybook, song/video, and dance, which matches the theme of the week. For example, one week, the theme may be the rainforest; and, each day children are introduced to one vocabulary word: rainforest, equator, creature, jungle, and bat. Each of these words has its own short video clip, but they share the other material. This is a great way to synthesize their learning and place it inside a context. And, the repetition of the material consolidates and solidifies their learning.

Parents and children can explore the website and all of its material for a free seven day trial - no credit card needed. Once the trial has ended, subscription plans can be purchased for $6.99/month or $59.99/year. Subscriptions give parents access to over 300 animated videos, books, songs, and dances. We applaud that the material is designed to accommodate a wide age range. It is often difficult to find educational apps or websites that are intended to be used/enjoyed by more than one child in a multi-child family.

Editor's Note: The Big Word Club's mission is to help bridge the Word Gap. To that end, for each Big Word Club subscription sold, the company's "From One to Many" program will give a subscription to a classroom. Want more information?
