Mexican born musician, composer, and educator José-Luis Orozco has released his sixteenth children's album ¡Come Bien! Eat Right! on the Smithsonian Folkways label. In this enchanting and engaging bilingual musical exploration of food and healthy eating, Orozco has wisely teamed up with producer, friend, and Grammy-winner Quetzal Flores, to create simple and lovely musical settings for these instructional tales.

¡Come Bien! Eat Right! is a lavish feast of 19 short songs, housed in an eco-friendly package, with beautiful art, and a 40-page booklet of lyrics and liner notes, as well as an informative written introduction. Orozco sings the cycle of songs in Spanish on tracks 1-19, and then repeats them in English on tracks 20-38. The lyrics in the booklet follow in the same fashion. The songs themselves are offered like a meal, beginning with a prayer of thanks to the Earth for all of her bounty in "Damos gracias" ("Thanksgiving"), followed by pre-meal hand-washing "Manos limpias" ("Clean Hands"), before tucking into the main course of songs.

Highlights include the Mariachi-style "Sabrosos Colores" ("Tasty Colors") about the hue and flavor of the food, the percussive "Verduras" ("Veggies"), the finger snapping "Compardre, compreme un coco" ("Compadre, buy me a coconut") and the silly and brilliant "The Legumes Dance," which presents the wonders of beans in a slow samba waltz. Elsewhere, "Chocolate" and "Tortilla" are fine clapping and rhythm-keeping songs, while "Agua" ("Water") is a spoken word informative piece about the many benefits of keeping hydrated.

¡Come Bien! Eat Right! is a remarkable album for younger children, and is especially useful for families who are raising their children to speak both Spanish and English. Along the way, Orozco manages to slip in valuable information about good nutrition, all while singing a thoroughly memorable and fun set of songs. ¡Muchas gracias Señor Orozco!
