Spider
Spring 2016 MagazinesToo old for Babybug and Ladybug, but too young for Cricket? Tailored with respect for its target audience, Spider, featuring Cricket Media's signature mix of fiction and non-fiction, poems and puzzles, crafts, jokes and brain teasers, offers ages 6 and up their own witty and smart literary magazine. Writers and illustrators are first-rate, and imagination soars. One of my favorite stories of 2015: A two-parter about a little dragon who eats musical notes as they are played. When his source dries up, he is rescued by a piano student, who nourishes him with Beethoven, Scott Joplin, Stephen Sondheim, Chopin, and Haydn as she practices. Another signature touch: the host of comical creepy crawlies, headed by cheeky Spider, who act out their own goofy stories, cleverly embedded with vocabulary lessons along the way, moving across the bottom of the magazine's pages.
