As Told by Ginger
Spring 2001 TelevisionReview:
From Macy Gray's catchy opening theme song to the subtle messages that pepper the script, "As Told By Ginger" is a smart, poignant and funny detour from the usual 'tween shows. Ginger Foutley is an articulate and talented sixth grader whose disdain for the hierarchy of Lucky Junior High is nearly matched by her nagging desire to be cool. Her friends Dodie and Macie share her
coolness quandary, but even though they linger low on the food chain, every once in a while they get a boost of self esteem and manage to buck the system. This cleverly written show delicately explores dramatic subjects, such as Ginger's absent father while maintaining its good-natured roots. Recently many of the networks have rolled out animated "family" sitcoms, only to see them fail critically and commercially. They could all take notes from this
gem. Although very family friendly, the humor is somewhat sophisticated and is more appropriate for the seven and older crowd.
