Dancin' in the Kitchen: Songs for ALL Families

Fall 2015 Music
Ages: 3 - 10 yrs.
CD Price: $15.00

In the 44th release from the incomparable folk duo of Cathy Fink and Marcy Marxer, the 15 tracks showcase the growing diversity of family structures in America, and around the world. The CD opens with the title track, the celebratory Cajun flavored "Dancin' in the Kitchen," where they are joined by the swinging Savoy Family Cajun Band. This inspired melding of musical styles delivers two more songs; a lovely country waltz, and a final reprise of "Kitchen." The singing identical twin Canote brothers joined (and inspired) Fink and Marxer on the song "Twins," as well as the marvelous "Family Song." American Western music and comedy group Riders in the Sky join the duo for the classic tale of overly interconnected families "I'm My Own Grandpa," and return later for "Birthday Pup," a magnificently memorizing mathematical equation about "dog years." Bluegrass meets Celtic music as the Irish group Cherish the Ladies join the fun for their rendition of Woody Guthrie's "Howdy Little Newlycome" paired with a "Ceilidh House Polka." Other musical friends, famed folk duo Kim & Reggie Harris collaborate with Fink and Marxer on the story/song "Dinnertime Orchestra," as well as contributing backing vocals on a sweet rendition of John McCutcheon's classic "Happy Adoption Day." And not to be missed is their reprise of the Fred Small song, "Everything Possible,"(first heard on their 1992 LP Nobody Else Like Me: Celebrating the Diversity of Children), where, joined by singer David Roth, they sing in divine three-part harmony.

Invite these kind, loving, generous in thought, and richly talented musicians to dance in your family's kitchen.
