In author Mac Barnett and illustrator Jon Klassen's quiet smile of a picture book, two boys start digging a hole in the yard, determined not to stop until they find something "spectacular." Observed by a quizzical cat and dog, the boys dig, dig and dig-and, page by page, the hole gets deeper, and deeper. But all they find is more dirt (just missing a treasure trove of very large gems, one of Klassen's witty touches). In the end, it's all been a daydream-or has it? Just where did the little dog dig up that bone?
