Rock Your Kicks invites children (or teens, or adults; anyone who likes to be creative) to turn canvas sneakers into a work of art. The kit includes five jars of paint (and a color wheel to guide blending the paints into a whole rainbow of hues), three sizes of paint brushes, a paint palette, and a set of stencils to get your artist started on the design. There is even a practice canvas to help adjust color and texture before putting the paint down permanently on the shoes. Shoes are not included; the kit includes enough paint for several pairs of shoes, so they expect you to want to choose your own sizes and styles. (Fortunately, canvas shoes are inexpensive and widely available.)

The results of the painting depend very much on the ability and interest of the artist; younger children will be happy to add splashes of color or to try out the stencils, which include an alphabet and more than a dozen basic shapes; but older artists can spend hours or days developing more elaborate works. The paint dries quickly and wears fairly well in the short term, though how long it will hold up over time remains to be seen -- the instructions say "carefully wipe them clean" when they get dirty, and one can guess that it might not be a good idea to wear them in wet conditions.

For kids who love to display their own artwork, this is artwork they can wear and thus show off every day, to everyone they meet. Rock Your Kicks is a new and engaging option for the creative child.
