Ask magazine is actually an acronym: Arts and Sciences for Kids. Although there is more of a science slant to the features in Ask, many of the articles create scientific connections to literature, thereby making both the science and the text more meaningful for the reader. A recent issue was headlined "Fairy Tale Science," and dove into the theoretical possibilities of classic fairy tales: "Jack and the Giant Kudzu" was one article, while others debated the existence of dragons, the "kissability" of frogs, and explored just how long Rapunzel's hair could realistically grow. In another issue, titled "Tricky Treats," Dr. Seuss's Green Eggs and Ham gets the mad scientist treatment via a chemical reaction that changes egg whites green (the secret lies in red cabbage juice!). This is a highly recommended publication for home and classroom alike.
