DIG Into History Magazine
Spring 2015 MagazinesThe magazine's name says it all. For kids who are fascinated with past civilizations, digging into history can be exciting!
In 2014, Cricket Media launched a new and expanded incarnation of the former archeological Dig magazine, combining it with what was the world history-focused Calliope magazine, to create the new, bigger and impressive Dig into History magazine. The slant now is more history than practical archeology, but it still digs deep.
High-quality and slickly produced, Dig now explores archaeology, paleontology and the earth sciences within a larger historical context. Recent issues of the 56-page magazine (previously 32 pages) have explored excavations of oases in the Egyptian desert, the ancient Greek polis, Ancient Rome's Mediterranean empire, and the great minds of Socrates, Plato and Aristotle.
The new regular columns and departments include the cartoony "Calliope Chronicles," the one-page "Interestingly" column on intriguing historical topic, the interactive "Ask Away" and "This & That" and "What's Wrong Here?"(anachronisms in art). There's a regular a special 10-to-12 page section called "Let's Go Dig-ging" that focuses on the what's and how's of archaeological discoveries related to the issue's theme. Illustrations and photographs continue to be the primary focus of this entertaining and educational publication.
For kids showing an interest in the excavation of history, put this magazine in their dirt-digging hands.
