2014 Kids Choice Sports Awards (SPECIAL)

2014 Kids Choice Sports Awards (SPECIAL)

Spring 2015 Television
Ages: 6 - 12 yrs.
Producer: Nickelodeon
Rating: TV G

The first-ever Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Sports Awards show promises non-stop action and man-o-man, does it over-achieve! This high-energy 90-minute special is recommended for viewers ages 6 - 12 - but don't be surprised to find parents grinning and maybe even cheering along just as enthusiastically as the screaming kids in the jam-packed arena where the ceremonies are held.

Pro Football Hall of Famer Michael Strahan scores big as the host, proving he's earned his second act as a media figure due to true on-air talent, not just by trading on his sports rep. He welcomes a long (long, long, long) list of sports stars, as well as celebrities from the world of entertainment, among them Megan Fox, Nick Cannon, Tony Hawk, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, and Pharrell Williams - who sings, appropriately enough, Happy, a performance and a message that permeates the entire program.

Backed by a hot pop soundtrack and splashy neon graphics, the 2014 Kids' Choice Sports Awards includes video clips, backstage antics, onstage gags - and because the program initially aired live, audience interaction via online voting. Oh yeah - and slime. It includes lots and lots of slime. (An explanation for the uninitiated: Nickelodeon surprises audience members and on-stage celebs alike with surprise drenchings in gallons of delightfully icky green goo.)

Kid-chosen winners take home a trophy in categories that range from Best Male and Female Athletes to Best Swag, Which Team has the Best Fans, Favorite Catch and Party Like a Sports Star

Nickelodeon's 2014 Kids' Choice Sports Awards celebrate the best of athleticism and sportsmanship. We see plenty of athletes in the news for their bad behavior and excesses and this program serves as a counter every parent can appreciate. The lucky award winners infuse their acceptance speeches with class, graciousness, and motivational messages, exemplifying what it really means to be a "role model."
