Review:

Is it possible to play charades without moving a muscle? "Strike a Pose" from R&R Games asks players to do just that. Players pose as Statues of people, things, or ideas, then freeze while the Statue Collector tries to guess what they are. Fortunately, the Collector has the Category Card that tells what they could be and only has to identify them from the list, but even then, it can be a real challenge -- is that person posing as eating "Midnight Snack" or "Brushing Teeth?" And how on earth can a statue be the expression, "It's anyone's call?" Players earn points for being guessed successfully, or for good guessing, and the player with the most points after everyone has had a turn guessing wins the game.

This was a fun for a wide range of ages. The game is rated for ages 10 and up, but we found that younger players had no trouble as long as someone helped them understand unfamiliar words and phrases (and there weren't too many of those; most are common expressions, or they are intentionally silly). The game does not lend itself to conversation - the Collector has to be out of the room while the others are posing; when he/she is back no one is able to talk, because they're statues. If you want a break from rowdier games, this one will take you straight from puzzlement to laughter, and it is good for groups both large and small.
