A few years ago, South Carolinian self-taught musician Steve Weeks found himself composing a series of songs for his own children's pre-school curriculum. The songs were well received, and his reputation grew from a network of friends to the national children's music scene. Fast forward to this, his fifth and newest recording for younger children, Once I Lived Upon The Sea begins with a gentle shuffle about the unexpected little gifts we give to each other in "My Grandpa Gave Me a Hammer," followed by the enticing song of bed time "Turn Out The Lights."

Other highlights include "The Rabbits Are Asleep," his charming tale of how everything and everyone needs time to rest, his lightly showering mandolin notes on the instrumental "Rain," and his keen canine perceptions on "Dog Beach." Elsewhere, there is the sweet serenade of "Close Your Eyes Willy Boy," the gorgeous, visionary title track, the tantalizing tale of toys "Miss Bunnyfeet and Robot Mike," and the jaunty bug story "Cricket, Little Cricket." Two more water-based instrumentals "Creek," and "Ocean" weave their spell, before this beautiful album ends with an exceptional acoustic rendering of U2's tribute to Martin Luther King "MLK."

Every detail and note is lovingly rendered, from these ten harmonious and exquisite songs, to the fine instrumentation and studio production, to the beautifully designed and illustrated CD cover. A fold out poster with the complete lyrics and credits is included.
