Maggie and Her Magical Glasses
Fall 2014 Mobile AppsMaggie loves to go to school, but the playground feels more like a battlefield. Her classmate Buzz is mean to her. One day he makes fun of her glasses and breaks them. Although her Dad can make her a new pair of glasses, it will take him a month. Maggie's wise Granny has a special pair for her to wear until her new glasses are finished. When Granny is tucking her into bed, Maggie tells her, "I hate Buzz with all my heart. If only I could find a way to hurt him back." Granny tells her that hate is a strong word, and that the best way to love better is to start with a friend that you hate. Maggie puts on her replacement glasses and immediately realizes they are affecting her vision. She sees her granny riding a motorcycle and her cat as a scientist writing formulas. When she goes to school her classmates look different too. In fact when she looks at Buzz, she sees that he has been bullied for years by his own brother. So Maggie asks her Dad to make Buzz a snorkeling outfit she gives him as a gift. Maggie tells her granny that Buzz doesn't have time to be the class bully anymore, he is too busy planning his underwater adventures.
The utterly charming Maggie takes young screen swipers through a story of forgiveness and understanding. Through pitch perfect narration, appealing illustration, and animated surprises, readers learn how important it is to try and see others from their point of view.
