Parents' Choice Foundation: Reviewing Children's Media Since 1978

Spring 2014 Website
Ages: 3 - 6 yrs.
Review: features games, stories, and a variety of creative activities for children aged three to six years. Children can play thirteen games including: "Find the Dinosaurs," "Busy Bakery," and "Go George Go". In "Find the Dinosaurs" children "dig" for dinosaur bones, assemble them, and learn dinosaur names. The "Busy Bakery" teaches number recognition and counting skills as players help George make and decorate cakes. Children create custom cars and boats to steer through a variety of courses in "Go George Go". In addition to these fun and educational games, includes stories such as "Curious George and the Dog Show" that children and parents can read together, or listen as a narrator reads the story, while being able to click on individual words to have them sounded out. Highlighting the words as they are read helps children associate the written word with what they hear spoken.

Through the "Curious" section of the website, children can explore videos and activities on a variety of topics such as sports, music, dinosaurs, and space. The "Create" area provides children with the opportunity to make a snack by dragging ingredients onto their plates; they can then take a picture of their creations and even print their recipes. The "Traffic Jamboree" allows children to record and play back songs they create; and, the "Animal Scrapbook" teaches children about animal categories and characteristics. The site offers special sections for parents and teachers featuring printable booklets and activities, worksheets, reading lists, and links to additional eBooks and apps. Children will enjoy exploring and playing with familiar characters such as Curious George and the Man with the Yellow Hat as they work through all of the engaging, well-designed and developmentally appropriate activities on this site.
