Fluxx: The Board Game is very difficult to describe. It's one of those games you have to play to understand, and even after playing it you're not entirely sure what happened. In spite of this, or perhaps because of this, this was the most fun we've had playing a board game in a long time.

Even calling it a "board game" is somehow inadequate. Instead of a board, there are nine tiles laid out, initially, in a 3x3 grid; however, game play allows any one of these tiles to be uprooted or rotated at any moment. Players aim to collect Goal cards by landing on the spaces marked by the currently visible Goal. But without warning, based on a draw of the cards, everything can change: the active goal, the number of cards to draw, the number of cards to play, the number of spaces to move, the number of cards allowed in one's hand, whether one can leap over or around gaps in the board, how many goal cards one has to collect, even the color of playing piece one is currently playing. Action cards and New Rule card add even more randomness to game play. By the end of the game we were confused and laughing and eager to play again.
