Stripes of All Types
Spring 2013 Non-FictionIn Susan Stockdale's Stripes of All Types, simple, rhyming text with just a few descriptive words on every page converge into a satisfying twist that the very young can discover and enjoy. Framed pictures of various animals with stripes star here. Some will be familiar to little children and some not. The simplicity and boldness with which the animals are depicted make this an excellent nature book.
Most of the pictures are framed on single pages, but a few animals such as tigers, zebras, and striped fish flow across double-page spreads. The palette is muted; the animals are large, sharp-edged, distinctive and discernible. At the end, there is more information about the various animals, and there is a nice double-page spread showing the various stripes in small boxes to be identified by readers. A great "lap book."
