House of Anubis
Spring 2013 TelevisionThis British drama that airs on Nickelodeon is perfect for tweens looking for an entertaining show focusing on a group of teen friends.
The show is set at Anubis House, a residence at an English boarding school overseen by a man named Victor. Mysterious things are happening there. Is Miss Denby really who she says she is? Where does that secret passageway lead? And what does Victor plan to do with the man in the tank?
If you haven't been watching, just dive right in. You'll be able to catch up fairly quickly. The boys and girls, a diverse group that includes some Americans among them, will pull you in with their charm and humor. Their friendships also add to the intrigue as they work together to figure out the keys to the Egyptian mythology and the mystery it holds.
It almost has an Indiana Jones feel to it. But the filming makes the show look like an American soap opera. This definitely isn't a Disney or ABC Family-type production. But it also doesn't feature oversexed teens, smart aleck wisecracks or storylines about pregnancy or drugs. There is romance, but it's usually just a sweet kiss or two. The focus is on the mystery. Think Harry Potter, Nancy Drew or the Hardy Boys. In other words, this is good clean fun.
