The Playmobil Wildlife Care Station is another excellent example of battery-free toys providing not only long-term imaginative play value but also teachable moments. The station, designed to resemble an African animal refuge center, includes a range of animals (giraffe, wild cats, zebra, chimp), some people to look after them, cages, fences, science tools, and enough medical supplies that the animals will quickly find themselves buried in bandages. The giraffe's leg even has a red wound which fades under the pressure of a bandage (or a finger). Our testers found plenty of ways to play with the set on their own; the youngest found herself learning from older testers all about endangered animals and risks to animals living in the wild.
