Parents' Choice Foundation: Reviewing Children's Media Since 1978

Fall 2008 Website
Ages: 5 - 11 yrs.
Producer: WGBH Educational Foundation
Producer: Interactive Kids Group
This site is a companion to the no-longer-produced PBS kid's show ZOOM. It contains some information on the cast of the show, several games, and a large number of engineering and science based games to be played online, as well as experiments and activities to play at home. Despite the fact that the television program is no longer on air, the ZOOM Web site still holds a wealth of content on science and engineering topics that makes it a valuable resource.

Children can navigate and explore a range of online activities as well as browse through a long list of "real life" experiments and activities. Without feeling like homework, these projects are clearly explained, with all materials and steps defined in easy-to-read fashion. The site also contains an area for parents and teachers with advice on how to present the activities and how to help introduce children to science in general. The site’s presentation is colorful and clean, though the text can be hard to read against certain backgrounds.
