Music Tales

Fall 2007 Storytelling
Ages: Infant - 8 yrs.
CD Price: $15.99

Children can become classical music connoisseurs while listening to their favorite fairy tales and stories! Musi-cal excerpts are both interspersed and used as background accompaniment for several popular literature selec-tions. Each melody has been cleverly coordinated to support the individual story components. Beginning with Goldilocks and the Three B's (with the B's reflecting Bach, Beethoven, and Brahms), music from these famous composers complements the story, creating a smooth marriage of both performing arts. Listeners of all ages will chuckle to hear three different rhythms of Brahms' Lullaby as Goldilocks experiences the bears' beds. The Three Little Pigs, The Story of Ferdinand, and Two Tales from the Arabian Nights also provide parallel musical delights.

In addition to the story correlations, original music was composed to challenge the right brain of listeners as they view four paintings (included in the liner notes) from The Mysteries of Harris Burdick. Poetry is also inte-grated with Robert Frost's Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening, which is accompanied by an excerpt from Winter from Antonio Vivaldi's The Four Seasons. The CD finale is Margaret Wise Brown's famous Goodnight Moon, which flows peacefully with the enchanting Clair de Lune.

When parents, teachers, or librarians find that time is too scarce to explore every art separately, CDs such as this can provide combined experiences without sacrificing talent or quality in either category.

The stories and the music on this CD are each independently charming; together they are jaw-dropping!
