My Best Day
Fall 2006 MusicReview:
Here's the new and much welcomed live album from the creative duo of Erza Idlet (vocals/guitar) and Keith Grimwood (vocals and basses), collectively, and delightfully known as Trout Fishing In America. Idlet and Grimwood have dual careers: known first as purveyors of some great satirical and serious adult songs, they've skillfully carried their trademark humor to kids' music. On this concert souvenir they are augmented by Fred Bogert on guitars, accordion and vocals, as well as the voices, stomps and clapping of a very enthusiastic audience of children and adults who braved snow and bad weather to see them live one February afternoon in 2006 in Arkansas. There's a nice mix of old favorites and tunes making their debut; all with Trout Fishing in America's trademark wit and humor. Highlights include “I've Got A Friend (And He Won't Be Quiet),” their ode to a perpetually bad hair day on “My Hair Had a Party Last Night,” and a kid's songwriting workshop inspired ditty; “Alien In My Nose.” Also included is their delightfully tuneful version of “Simon Says,” “Day Care Blues,” and the crowd pleasing closer “Beans and Weenies.” This extraordinary duo has their fingers firmly on the pulse of what kids (and adults) find funny. Their songs are consistently well crafted, beautifully sung and played with a subtle sophistication that most musicians usually reserved for adult albums and audiences.
