Creative Cosmetics is a hands-on way to teach chemistry concepts and to explore the science behind cosmetics-all with beautiful results. The kit contains the materials to create shower gel, body lotion, face cream, lip gloss, foundation and more. Our testers enjoyed developing their own formulas, creating names for their products and labeling the containers. Although most of the ingredients are included in the kit, readily available additional tools and grocery items are required.

The 48-page experiment book is packed with information on dermatology, the history of cosmetics, the biology and care of skin/hair, proper hygiene, tips for correct makeup application as well as additional recipes for face masks, skin rubs and more.

Although the supplies were sufficient for using this kit in a group, our testers would have liked more of the cosmetic bases. Also, the booklet emphasizes that the finished products don't have a long shelf life given the "nonsterile" conditions in which they were prepared. Adult supervision is essential during the mixing and preparation of the products.
