cELLAbration! A Tribute to Ella Jenkins
Fall 2004 MusicIt features a host of Jenkins' noted friends and admirers singing 18 songs closely associated with her, some she wrote, some from her vast collection of folk and world music. A sampling: "You'll Sing a Song and I'll Sing a Song," with Cathy Fink; "Did You Feed My Cow?," with Sweet Honey in the Rock"; "Please Is a Pleasant Expression," with Tom Chapin" and "Jambo," with Red Grammer. Bill Harley lends his comic storytelling skill to Jenkins' "The World of Whickum Whackum" and the CD ends with a new musical tribute, "Sing Me a Song Again, Ella," with a children's chorus and jaunty accompaniment that includes some ukulele strumming, one of Jenkins' specialities.
